America the Beautiful the Battlefield

All normal people were horrified to see the murder of George Floyd. Sharing this outrage, Attorney General William Barr recently stated, “Our free society depends on the rule of law, the assurance that ordinary citizens can go about their lives without being subject to arbitrary violence or fear. When the rule of law breaks down, the promise of America does also.”

THE NEGLECTED SOLUTION

William Barr went on to add, “Unfortunately the aftermath of George Floyd’s death has produced the second challenge to the rule of law. While many have peacefully expressed their anger and grief, others have hijacked protests to engage in lawlessness.”

What Is the Root Cause of All This?

The protesters say it’s systemic racism and racially motivated police brutality—a claim others argue is a politically motivated myth that cannot be supported by the data. So the debate rages on and on, as it has for years, seemingly with no solution.

But Is the Real Problem Something Far More Sinister?

The answer from God’s perspective is a resounding “Yes!” The fundamental problem in America is human depravity and satanic deception; and the solution is the saving and transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

America has a sin problem, not a skin problem—a satanic problem, not a social problem.

God’s Perspective on People

The Bible, the Word of God, has much to say about the condition of all people as a result of the fall of the whole human race into sin.

There is none righteous, not even one;
There is none who understands,
There is none who seeks for God;
All have turned aside, together they have become useless;
There is none who does good,
There is not even one.
Their throat is an open grave,
With their tongues they keep deceiving,
The poison of asps is under their lips;
Whose mouth is full of cursing
and bitterness;
Their feet are swift to shed blood,
Destruction and misery are in their paths,
And the path of peace they have not known.
There is no fear of God before their eyes.

(Romans 3:10-18)

God’s Perspective on Sin

People are “alienated from God” (Colossians 1:21), and walk “according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:1-2). They walk “in the futility of [their] mind, being darkened in [their] understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in [them], because of the hardness of [their] heart” and they have “given [themselves] over to every kind of impurity with greediness” (Ephesians 4:18-19).

God’s Perspective on Satan

Satan is the ingenious and diabolical general of a demonic army waging an invisible spiritual war to resist the purposes of God (Ephesians 6:12-13; 2 Corinthians 11:14), but an enemy God will one day defeat (Revelation 12:9). He is “the god of this world” who “has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:4).

God and the Gospel

Because God is holy, all sin must be punished, and His justice demands death for sin (Romans 6:23). But in His love for sinners, He has provided a Savior who satisfied His demands for justice; “Christ . . . died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18). “There is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

God and Repentance

When we come to repentant faith in Jesus Christ, our sins are forgiven (Ephesians 1:7), our sins are exchanged for His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21), and He transforms the very desires of our heart (2 Corinthians 5:17).

  • America needs a bold gospel proclamation, not another political conversation.
  • America needs a changed heart, not another law.
  • America needs a Savior, not another politician.
  • America needs faith, hope, and love to replace disbelief, cynicism, and selfishness.

God’s Call to You…
…to Embrace His Gift of Saving Grace

God is speaking to you as you read this. He commands you to turn from sin and to trust in His Son, Jesus, who lived, died, and rose again for sinners like you and me. His Word is sure in stating that if you “confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed’” (Romans 10:9-11).

Will you heed His call?
